Portsmouth Library Concert News

For our concert players…

Our final concert this year is at the Portsmouth Library on Saturday, May 13 at 3:00 pm. Please plan on arriving by 2:00. We will do a sound check and arrange seating. The address for GPS is 175 Parrott Ave., Portsmouth, NH 03801.

Our last rehearsal is on Saturday, May 6, from 10:00-12:00 (or a little later, if we need it) at Anne’s house in Bow. We will tweak a few things and hopefully go to Portsmouth feeling totally confident!

And if you missed the fun time we all had dining together after the Bass Hall concert, or if you didn’t miss it and want to have another fun time with all your Scottish music friends, you have another chance. This time we’ll be dining on Thai food at Five Thai Bistro after our Portsmouth Library concert on May 13. They can comfortably seat a large party, the atmosphere is fine, and the food is delicious and reasonably priced.

Connie Eppich will be sending out an email a couple days ahead of the concert to get a head count. Family and friends are welcome to come along.

In Case You Missed the Workshop with Pam Weeks…

While we have been encouraging our players to smile, particularly in performance, it’s worth noting that smiles were abundant during this workshop. Gordon thinks this was a combination of people being delighted at all the little details Pam was teaching, and her easy going and entertaining delivery.

May is Annual Meeting Month

Following our tea (and coffee) break on May 14 we will have a brief annual meeting. Please plan to attend because we promise to make it short enough to still have time for our regular jam session.

In addition to a few brief reports from your board members, SMC members will have a chance to vote for a Secretary, Treasurer, and Member-at-Large who will each serve for a two-year term. Members will also receive a ballot via email so you can send in your vote ahead of the meeting.

Music Committee News

Please thank Arthur Comegno and Sylvia Miskoe for their many years of service on the Music Committee. They’ve each assisted in planning great concert programs for five of the last ten years.

Looking ahead, we will now have members serve a three-year term on the Music Committee, with one member rotating off and another joining each year.

At its last meeting the board appointed Connie Eppich, Alan Wilson, and Frank Stewart to serve on the Music Committee for the coming year. They will begin putting together concerts sets in May so if you have ideas of some tunes or sets you’d like to see on our program, let them know. If there are sets we played this year that you would like to have on the program for another year, let one of them know. Or send an email to nhscottishmusic@gmail.com with your thoughts.

Website Problem?

Finally, know that our new website is maintained by a committee of five volunteers. We don’t always get it right. If you see something that needs attention, or if we’ve posted a photo that includes you that you are not happy with, please shoot us an email at nhscottishmusic@gmail.com and we’ll get on it as soon as possible.
