Our October 13th Gathering

This month our founding music director, Barbara McOwen, will lead a workshop on “little reels,” which are 16-bar reels that were most popular before 1930.

Tune Tales

Every month Alan Wilson researches the monthly tunes and writes a blog sharing their history and other fun facts about them. You can find the Tune Tales blog on our website under Fun Stuff, or click here. The sheet music for this month’s tunes can be found here.

Calling All Composers!

This coming March, our gathering will be dedicated to tunes written by members of our club. If you have an original tune you’d like to share with us, please send it to our Tune Master, Alan Wilson, before February 9. More details here.

Note on Zoom

One of the silver linings of the Covid Pandemic was that it brought us in touch, via Zoom, with our members from the far corners of the United States. Once we began meeting again in person, we endeavored to continue including our distant members via Zoom. Unfortunately, however, we’ve realized that the resources we have available do not allow us to provide a clear and meaningful connection. Therefore, the board has made the difficult decision to stop offering this service. In its stead, Jeff Murdoch has agreed to record our gatherings and post them to our website (when he is able to attend). Keep an eye out for the link to these when we post our gathering recaps in the SMC News blog.

September Gathering Summary

We had a great turnout at our first official gathering of the season. We familiarized ourselves with some of the newer and challenging tunes which are in our concert repertoire this year.

New Member Profile: Annelise Papinsick

Learn a bit more about Annelise Papinsick, our piano player, occasional conductor, and newest board member. At its June meeting the board voted unanimously to appoint Annelise to the one-year board-appointed member-at-large position. We are excited that she agreed to join, bringing along new energy and ideas.

Scholarship Report

Read Annelise’s report on her piano lessons with Neil Pearlman, for which she received funds from our scholarship program.

(Annelise joined the SMC board only after receiving her scholarship funds as our bylaws do not allow board members to receive scholarship funds.)
