“Having fun with Scottish Music”

June 4 Nelson Session and Mari Black Concert

Please join us as SMC ventures to the town of Nelson ( the contra-dance capital of the world) to present a Scottish music jam session, followed by a concert with renowned fiddler Mari Black and her trio.

This is an opportunity for SMC members to share their love of Scottish music with musicians from the Monadnock region of New Hampshire.

June Gathering

Join us June 11 as we play through the past year’s tunes, in addition to our new June tunes. We’ll be evaluating the tunes to decide which ones we want to include in our concert sets for next year.

Portsmouth Library Concert Recap

On Saturday, May 13, we reaped the rewards of extra rehearsals and the commitment of our members to put their best musical selves forward when we played to a standing-room-only audience at the Portsmouth Public Library. Those of us from the Portsmouth area were treated to a sea of familiar faces as many friends came to enjoy an afternoon of Scottish tunes.

Thanks to everyone who made this possible: Kip Ferguson, our Master of Ceremonies; Gordon Peery, our musical leader; Anne and Clete Baier, who hosted extra rehearsals; and our music committee (Arthur Comegno, Connie Eppich, and Sylvia Miskoe) who put together a great program. (We were so focussed on the performance that we neglected to find a volunteer in the audience to take photos, but we know we looked great!)

Following the concert, about 20 SMCers convened at Five Thai Bistro in Portsmouth for dinner. We were joined by former members Elly and Isobel Abelson.

In Case You Missed the Workshop with Ed Pearlman…

Following a brief annual meeting, Ed Pearlman taught us three new tunes to demonstrate playing techniques.

Meet Julie from the Left Coast

Long time member, Julie Wyrick, serves on the Scholarship Committee from her home in California.

Save the Date!

Anne Baier will be hosting the annual summer picnic and jam this year. The date is Sunday, August 27. The time is 1-5 p.m.

Details will follow in a separate email this summer.
