Annual Picnic & Jam

Welcome back! Hopefully your summer has been filled with music and fun. Before it ends, join us for our annual potluck and jam. After generously hosting for so many years, Sylvia has graciously turned it over to Anne Baier. So this year it will be at Anne’s home in Bow from 1-5 on Sunday, August 27. Bring a dish to share, drinks and a friend if you like! Anne and Clete’s pool will be open, so bring a bathing suit and towel if you want to cool off. September Gathering

Join us September 10 as we begin working on this year’s concert tunes and enjoy a visit from Katie Hawn, our New Jersey member who will share tunes she learned this past spring at the Ashokan String Fling with Alasdair Frasier and Natalie Hass.

June was a busy month.

Before scattering for summer fun, SMCers got together in June several times with new and old friends for Scottish music making.

Concert Tunes are Ready!

Your music committee was hard at work this summer putting together a set of tunes for our concerts during the 2023/24 program year. We’ve held onto seven sets from the previous year that we both played well and enjoyed playing. Then we added sets brought to us by our workshop leaders with some substitutions and additions. We hope you’ll agree with our choices.

We encourage you to print all music single sided. Doing so will allow you to easily substitute corrected versions of the music (we all make mistakes) and move sets around if we change the order. And we’re always inserting one of Kip’s songs, somewhere.

Time for Another Baier Barn Concert

Anne and Clete Baier will be hosting good friend and fellow musician Gordon Peery and his musical partner, Eve Pierce, on Sunday afternoon, September 17 at 3pm in their beautiful barn, with a light supper to follow. 

Eve Pierce is a singer/songwriter with an exuberant stage presence. We all know Gordon as a pianist extraordinaire as well as our concert conductor. But he does so much more. During this concert he will accompany Eve on piano, guitar and harmonica as they perform songs of love, silliness, and hope. Anne has seen them perform together and can guarantee that they will provide an afternoon of fun.

Tickets are $30 and must be purchased in advance. A delicious supper prepared by Clete and Anne is included. (And if you’ve had Clete’s lunches and Anne’s desserts you know this will be a treat.) Have you noticed?

As I was updating the Granite Skyes heading to Volume 35 I realized that our tunes for September are beginning with 36. I wondered if somewhere along the way during my years as editor I had missed updating the volume number. I sent an email to Sylvia Miskoe, who knows everything about our history, asking about this. Her response: “Mike Vose wanted to do a newsletter and so it began in our 2nd year.” Thank you, Sylvia.

Website Problem?

Our new website is maintained by a committee of five volunteers. We don’t always get it right. If you see something that needs attention, if something is too confusing, or if we’ve posted a photo that includes you that you are not happy with, please shoot us an email at nhscottishmusic@gmail.com and we’ll get on it as soon as possible.
