December GatheringThis month we’ll continue what we started in September, going over the tunes for our spring concerts. NOTE THAT THERE IS A CHANGE TO THE CONCERT MUSIC. Your music committee has decided to drop the Hector the Hero set. Instead Alan Wilson has put together a set of Scottish chestnuts, including several Harry Lauder songs that are in our tunes for this month. We’ve put this set at the end of the first half of the Bass Hall concert. Click here for the new Harry Lauder set and visit the Concert Music page for a current list of the concert sets.

December TunesAlways responsive to members’ requests, Alan Wilson, our Tune Master, has put together a set of familiar Scottish songs by Harry Lauder. For the dots, click here. To learn about the history and other interesting facts about the tunes, click here.

Spring Rehearsal ScheduleThe more we rehearse the better we’ll sound. With that in mind, we’ve scheduled an ambitious rehearsal schedule to prepare for the Bass Hall concert on Tartan Day, April 6. Please try to attend as many as possible. We encourage all members to come on March 10, whether or not you are planning to play, as this is our regular gathering at the Concord Music School. All other rehearsals will be held at Anne Baier’s home in Bow. If you cannot attend the Bass Hall concert but are interested in playing in others as they are scheduled (Portsmouth Library, TBD), do come to rehearse as well. Note that other than March 10, these are all on a Saturday. Saturday, March 2, 1 p.m. Sunday, March 10, 1 p.m. = our regular gathering at CCMS Saturday, March 16, 1 p.m. Saturday, March 23, 1 p.m. Saturday, March 30, 1 p.m.

Want to Perform More?At its November meeting, your board of directors decided that, for a variety of reasons, we would not perform at NEFFA this year. Instead, we would start looking into other venues closer to home. One option would be to set up a performance with a smaller group of musicians if the venue and timing won’t accommodate our whole group. (For a number of years Mary and Brian Mokler got a small group together to play at their local farmers market.) In the past, performance opportunities have been created by our members, looking around their home towns. (For example, Bob Reed initiated our First Night gig in Wolfeboro where we played for a number of years.) If you have ideas please talk to a board member. And don’t be shy. Making a suggestion doesn’t mean you have to organize the event.
