Our November 9th Gathering

This month, Peter Macfarlane will present a workshop on the essential characteristics of Scottish marches. We will explore marches in 3/4, 9/8, and 2/4, looking at emphasis, weight of notes, rhythmical elements, flow, accompaniment ideas, and more. Click here for details.

Tune Tales

Each month our Tune Master, Alan Wilson, selects a few tunes to explore and writes a blog post sharing their history and fun facts about them. This month he looks at the marches we will be using in our workshop: “A Prayer for Jamie,” “Tigh na Gorm,” “Skye Gathering,” and “Lord Huntly’s Cave.”

October Workshop Summary

Annelise, our Music Director, gave a workshop on conducting, focusing on cuing, cut-offs, and interpreting stylistic elements. Attendees even had the opportunity to try conducting for themselves. The value of the workshop was immediately evident through the precision of starts and endings in playing a few of our concert sets. Click here to read more.

Scholarships Reminder

We received two grants for scholarships this year. Any member who wants to attend a summer program, take lessons, take online courses, etc. is welcome to apply.

Join Us for Board Meetings

Ever wonder what your Board does? Join us for Board Meetings! All meetings are open to our members. We meet (usually) the first Wednesday of the month at 7 PM on Zoom. Meetings are an hour or less and we would welcome anyone who is interested to see how we run the organization. Send an email to nhscottishmusic@gmail.com and we’ll send you the Zoom link.
